CHAPTER 4

 

                      This is the process for accepting a guru. The guru is Krsna's representative, the former acaryas representative. Krsna says that all acaryas are His representatives; therefore the guru should be offered the same respect one would offer to God. As Visvanatha Chakravarty Thakur says in this prayers to the spiritual master, ''By the mercy of the spiritual master, one receives the benediction of Krsna.'' Thus, if we surrender to the bona fide guru, we surrender to God. God accepts our surrender to the guru.

                      Is there any science that gives us the knowledge by which we may become immortal? Yes, we may become immortal, but not in the material sense. We cannot receive this knowledge contained in so-called universities. However there is knowledge contained in the Vedic scriptures by which we many become immortal. That immortality is our better position. No more birth, no more death, no more old age, no more disease. thus the guru takes on a very great responsibility. He must guide his disciple and enable him to become an eligible candidate for the perfect position-immortality. The guru must be competent to lead his disciple back home, back to Godhead. 

                      यह गुरु को स्वीकार करने की प्रक्रिया है। गुरु कृष्ण के प्रतिनिधि, पूर्व आचार्य प्रतिनिधि हैं। कृष्ण कहते हैं कि सभी आचार्य उनके प्रतिनिधि हैं; इसलिए गुरु को वही सम्मान देना चाहिए जो भगवान को देना चाहिए। जैसा कि विश्वनाथ चक्रवर्ती ठाकुर इस प्रार्थना में आध्यात्मिक गुरु से कहते हैं, ''आध्यात्मिक गुरु की दया से, व्यक्ति को कृष्ण की कृपा प्राप्त होती है।'' इस प्रकार, यदि हम सच्चे गुरु को आत्मसमर्पण करते हैं, तो हम भगवान को आत्मसमर्पण करते हैं। भगवान गुरु के प्रति हमारे समर्पण को स्वीकार करते हैं।

                      क्या कोई विज्ञान है जो हमें वह ज्ञान देता है जिससे हम अमर हो सकते हैं? हाँ, हम अमर हो सकते हैं, लेकिन भौतिक अर्थों में नहीं। हम तथाकथित विश्वविद्यालयों में निहित इस ज्ञान को प्राप्त नहीं कर सकते। हालाँकि वैदिक शास्त्रों में निहित ज्ञान है जिसके द्वारा हम कई अमर हो जाते हैं। वह अमरता हमारी बेहतर स्थिति है। न अधिक जन्म, न अधिक मृत्यु, न अधिक बुढ़ापा, न अधिक रोग। इस प्रकार गुरु एक बहुत बड़ी जिम्मेदारी लेता है। उसे अपने शिष्य का मार्गदर्शन करना चाहिए और उसे पूर्ण स्थिति-अमरता के लिए योग्य उम्मीदवार बनने में सक्षम बनाना चाहिए। गुरु को अपने शिष्य को घर वापस भगवद्धाम तक ले जाने के लिए सक्षम होना चाहिए।
